Currumbin Valley

Rocky formations stand guard off the beach at Currumbin, a distinctive landscape for this beautiful beach area. Elephant Rock, Flat Rock and Currumbin Rock offer silhouettes against the sky with rolling surf. This is rock ‘n’ roll designed by nature.

Use Currumbin as a base to explore – it’s close to a major wildlife sanctuary with the world’s largest collection of Australian native animals. Head to health retreats, go horseriding, play golf and visit a wildlife attraction.

Currumbin means ‘high up place’ or ‘place where high trees grow’. Current building height limits keep the area low-key. Take pretty walks such as the Oceanway walk to Tugun crossing Currumbin Creek to Rockview Park.

In the 19th century coaches took mail and passengers from Southport over the Nerang River. They travelled along the beach using tidal crossings at Tallebudgera and Currumbin Creeks to Coolangatta – avoiding high tides which brought quicksand. As early as 1919, Currumbin’s surf life saving club was established.
